Live from the Front Lines of the Gilt City Warehouse Sale!

Today is the start of the Gilt City DC’s warehouse sale. It is located this year at Dock 5 of the Union Market. This is behind the shops off of Neal Street NE. I have attended the biannual Gilt City warehouse sale since its inception and have reported on it through this very blog (http://bit.ly/21ffFu0 ). I have attended the first access media event. Gilt City has sent me a private email link before the regular tickets go on sale because I am a premium client, have been here before and the site follows me on Twitter. The first access media event benefits are getting first crack at all of the goodies. This is great when both my dress and shoe size is 12. Speaking of shoe size, I am happy that Gilt City has (finally) stocked my shoe size!

In addition, to shoes, I have snagged the white Diane von Furstenberg dress and two Alice + Olivia dresses. These are two of my favorite designers plus I couldn’t resist the Alice + Olivia sparkle! I absolutely love sequins and they make me feel feminine.

Another bonus is the extra discounts coming from certain colored tags. I manage to score an extra 20% off my blue Alice + Olivia dress because it has a lavender tag.

I hope that these insider tidbits guide you through your Gilt City warehouse sale visit. This event is happening today and tomorrow. Here is the link to purchase tickets (http://gi.lt/1oQY4uA). Hurry up because they are going fast and you save hundreds of dollars in one place!

Friday Night’s Gilt City DC Warehouse Sale

This Friday I attended Gilt City DC’s warehouse sale.  Two weeks ago I purchased the opening evening ticket as soon as the event went live because I knew that the early bird got the worm.  This was going to be a hot ticket.  My budget was $350 and was happy that the Valentino dress that I bought was $349 ($364 after taxes).  Its original price was $1990.  Grabbing that made me feel victorious. Yeah, I went over to the purses and shoes even though I wasn’t looking at the former and the latter didn’t go to size 42.  Below is my catch!

LivingSocial Rent the Runway Event at 918 F Street NW

Even though I purchased my inaugural gown earlier this week, I decided that since I paid $8 for the LivingSocial Rent the Runway deal I might as well schlep over there to check it out.  I rode the red line to Gallery Place station walking to 918 F street NW.  I showed the lady my id, handed my coat over to the coat check, received a drink ticket and climbed the stairs to the Rent the Runway boutique.  There were five stacks of dresses, 2 for gowns and 3 for cocktail dresses.  You can also find dresses online.  At the event you could rent a dress for 20% off which was a very big steal.  Seeing the dresses upfront made my happy that I bought my Badgley Mischka gold sequined gown through Zappos because no one the inventory shined that mine did (No peeking!  I will receive it after attending the actual inaugural ball).

Reconnecting

Yesterday I dropped off my evening dress to a friend who worked at a high school. The school took these dresses for needy girls who couldn’t afford a prom dress. Even though I could had asked for a receipt, I didn’t because seeing a girl happy at her prom was payment enough. Later I learned from my friend that another undergraduate alumna lived here but after her residency will return to Ohio. I told her that I was thinking the same thing. I wanted to start by funding a scholarship. I didn’t just want to return with more money and experience but with more meaning. What was the use of spending five years here returning the same way as I came? I envisioned endowing two book scholarships one per university. I even knew how much money I would need to bring my dream to fruition. She then notified me that every month she ate brunch up in upper Northwest DC. I told her to provide me with the details and I would attend. This drop-off opportunity was a wonderful way of reconnecting with old friends.
