Quality Control

Update: I have begun working a full-time temporary job as a Quality Control Support Clerk with a mortgage company. Today I have logged 200 mortgages the daily average for this position. If I continue to perform at this pace, the firm would extend a permanent position. Though this job as a permanent position would be okay, I am working towards becoming an On-Line Searcher then an Escrow Officer! :)

Job Search Drama

This job searching thing has been killing me lately because this week I have gone to two career fairs and have tested at one temporary agency, however, no permanent job leads as of yet. Maybe I wouldn't have been as cynical if I haven't has to wait in line for nearly one hour to interview for one position. And, I have pre-registered for this event. My legs are wobbly. My feet hurt and I am almost exhausted! In addition, I had to pay $4.60 to print resumes!

As I exit, the career fair, I walked over to the nearby temp office where I am registered to learn about the present status of a pending job order. He hs informed me that there is something currently in the works and will notify me later today. In addition, I have also I have received an email from another recruiter interested in discussing opportunities with me. I swear Tuesday's career informational interviews with a superregional bank was far more interesting and productive!

The bank advertised in the newspaper, radio and college. That fair lasted for two days. When I interviewed with the bank, there were four recruiters plus the diversity administrator whom I met. They were divided to represent two divisions: global trade services and corporate finance. The recruiters were cordial during both sessions and I received a business card and two human resources pamphlets from the administrator. Wow! What a difference two days make!

Yet I still reamin undaunted in my job search for a full-time permanent job. There are some more good things that should be coming such as the Pricing Analyst job with another employer, and Economist, Financial Analyst and Business Analyst positions located out of state.

I truly believe that I am on the cusp of greatness! I just hope I will realize it soon than later.

Shine

I shine like the cosmos
That light up the sky
Phenomena like Andromeda
My velocity can't be measured by an odometer
Radiate like the sun
Envelopes all no one shuns
Blast into the stratosphere
Now I'm in full orbit
Absorbing all of the positive energy here!

New York Job Status

During the interview the big wigs to inform me that they have experienced a "hiring freeze" imposed by HQ and that they would know by the end of this week. However, I am not holding my breath because I am doing well in other areas.

Performance Indicator

Enrolling in the Access Class today and executing on the Excel test tomorrow will position me to secure a higher paying job, because I will have a more competitive skill set. Access is a database and Excel is big in finance and accounting. Since I have a financial analysis background, Excel will help me enormously!

The remainder of this week, I will allocate an hour towards improving my computer knowledge by creating spreadsheets and databases. I have decided to catalog my job search in Access. This will provide me with an abundance of homework. Also, I can document my travel expenses in Excel. Instead of viewing my elongated job search as a bust, I have decided to transform it into a boon by acquiring skills to augment my repertoire. By the end of this week, I will have accomplished my objectives.

Still Climbing

I'm still climbing the ladder of success
And I haven't reached the apex yet

Faster Is Not Always Better

Today I interviewed for the Quality Control Clerk position but during the conversation with the recruiter she mentioned the Online Searcher post which I believed that I could be more of an asset to this organization. Immediately she returned with two men who worked for that department. This exchange also went for everything but one: the salary. Neither man mentioned the job's pay rate only said that it was hourly and available for overtime.

This astounded me because I refuse to work for any employer without knowing my starting rate! Remember, faster is not always better!

Which takes me to the next story about my New York Citytravel plans. Next week, I have an interview with a big-time employer and I have succumbed to my insecurities of riding the Greyhound to and fro the interview so I plunged an exorbitant amount of money on a plane ticket to keep this mirage of first-class professional going. Nevermind, that I know that I am currently unemployed, without a car and have accepted an interview with an insurance which I must catch a cab back from because the bus doesn't run after rush hour! It is all spur of the moment but I do feel somewhat validated and vindicated amount my actions. Hey, I could say that when I secure the New York job that that was the past and this is the present! :)

Just remember, faster is not always better! I will write additional entries regarding my interviewing experiences and the New York trip.

Claim It!

One day during my commute an old lady told me that if I wanted something I’d have to claim it! Exclaim it as mine. Those words empowered me to seize the day and every opportunity that comes my way.

That phrase reenergized my spirit and reinvigorated my soul
To pursue my lifelong goals
I want to be the first black Fortune 500 CEO who retains majority ownership
Every day I will claim this as my dream and will own it every day of my life

Permit

Permit: 1) to allow to be done; consent to 2) to authorize; give leave 3) to give opportunity for

I permit myself to achieve greatness by ignoring other people’s opinions of me.

Grateful Journal Entry: May 6, 2005

I am grateful for these five things:

1) I have my health!

2) I have taken time out for me.

3) I have taken myself so serious.

4) Having read today's paper about Pauline Bunkley McCadden's journey towards earning her libral arts degree from Cleveland State University (my alma mater) at age 78, has motivated me to do more. I don't have any of her trials and tribulations, therefore, I should accomplish more!

5) That I am currently working towards my future of being an Economist by studying for the BLS assessment.

Happiness Lies Within Me

I create my own happiness
My own sorrow
My own peace
My own heaven
My own hell
My own highs
My own lows
And so it goes

Happiness is a choice
I choose to be happy
Release positive energy
To impact me emotionally

Happiness is a groundswell of
Overflowing and outpouring
Gushing like a geyser
Sprouting like Ole Faithful
Springing forth a renewed spirit
And for me a happier life

More

I want more!

Courage

Dispel fears
Instill courage
Ward off uncertainty that's near
Eliminate the scourge
That cripples confidence
Fear has no residence
Because my courage is evidence
That I possess the internal drive
To survive and thrive
In this life
